Shopping Cart Question

Hello....I am new and just getting started. After setting up my first product I entered a quantity of 5. I tested this by placing an order and the quantity does not change. Someone could come in and purchase >5 and as far as I can tell they could still check out. Am I missing something ...... or is this a really stupid question?

Make sure that you have the product set to register Quantity - if you search for the product, click to edit it, and then click the last tab on the right - "Advanced Options"

"When customers add this product to thier cart, require Form Data from:"

Make sure it's not set to ignore quantity.
