Okay, after running the installation script from fantastico, it reports success, and I can see all the files in the root directory. I note they are all 0777 across the board, which seems very unusual. Other scripts usually install various files and directory with 0755 at the most, with a few special directories that need to be writable by the public. anyway, after installation it yields a 500 error and the log shows "error: file is writable by others" errors. Running on a Linux RHE3 box, latest Cpanel and updates.
I can see the domain is set up okay at partner.soholaunch.com, so not sure what is the issue.
Thanks for the help.

It would appear to me that you are running suexec and therefore the error indicates
"error: file is writable by others" errors. So change the permissions to 755 and as you state if you have (as per IPB forum board) a public upload dir maybe it is necessary to leave that as 777 ??
I had this with a host who didn't understand suexec and everything ran with 777 yet they still maintained it couldn't.

Normally the docroot that you are installing to needs to be 777 for installation only. I have read a few things on the Fantastico boards suggesting that there is indeed a problem when installing soholaunch on a server running suexec. This will be fixxed though. I am not sure if 755 installation will work but give it a try. Also not that you need to tighten back your permissions after installation.

changing permissions on *.php files to 0755 resolved the problem. the docroot on dedicated servers with cpanel/fantastico doesn't have to be 0777 because cpanel has permissions. I think the script can be fixed to accomodate the cpanel distros.

Kosmo is aware of this, and we will notify him of the solution.
