Automatic UPS Shipping Calculations

Hi everyone,

I have a client that is looking to automatically calculate UPS shipping on an order prior to payment using the shopping cart module.
While I've seen several generic examples of how to do this, I'm wondering if any of you have actually integrated this functionality into Pro Edition. And, if so, if you have any tips or code that you would be willing to share. I would hate to have to reinvent the wheel - yet again...

I am dying for this ability as well with my website. I have very heavy items which I am selling and the shipping costs are very expensive. Depending on shipping method and location the prices vary greatly. Currently I am forced to have my online customers place an order without any shipping costs -- we then get back to them with the real total via email -- they then confirm again to proceed. The extra step is rediculous...

We do have plans to add this as our first "plug-in" for shopping cart, as we add the shopping cart plugin system, which will be in the next feature release.

I could use this RIGHT NOW. I'm building a site for a client that had this in their old site and I'd have to have them spend $$$ for custom development to get this. What is the expected timing for availability?

The "plug in" system is in the works and will be included in version 5.0. A release date has not been specified at this time.

My customer needs UPS shipping. Has anyone coded this yet? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here.

Yes. Though I'd suggest building it as a plugin rather than just a custom script. First person do it gets to sell it on the addons website --- and based on the number of requests it's pretty much garunteed that you'll have a top seller on your hands.

I would really like to see a plugin option for both UPS and FedEx shipping. I have a client that is really tied in to FedEx and won't change to UPS..

Is there anyone who can or has coded shipping options based on area? My client needs 3 shipping options; Auckland, North Island, South Island. And what would it cost?

To answer the needs noted above, we have released a real time shipping plug-in for:

UPS (http://addons.soholaunch.com/plugins/shopping_cart/ups_shipping)
FedEx (http://addons.soholaunch.com/plugins/shopping_cart/fedex_shipping)
USPS - Not done yet, but currently working on it.

I have started a thread (http://forum.soholaunch.com/showthread.php?t=4579) to allow for comments and feedback on the modules plug-in. I know this is one everyone needed so we might as well improve it until everyone is happy...within reason :)
