View Full Version : Why is this happening

Prior to licensing soho, I had installed all 5 of the plugins. I was able to see and confige them without issues.

Since purchasing the license for soho, I have only one listed; "Hit Counter" and when I try to install others I get the error "Error: Unable to detect name of extracted folder"

So I changed the name of the folder to something else and re-created the plugins folder. Set the permission to 777 and tried again. It does not matter which of the plugins I try to install, all come back now and say "Error: Unable to detect name of extracted folder"

I have re-downloaded them, many times, and always get the same message.
How do I correct this so they will install?

Hmm... any idea whether php's shell_exec() function is disabled on your server? Can you upload a template? Can you create a backup via backup/restore?

We've also seen some linux builds that are set up not to display the output when shell_exec() is called, and that plugin install routine depends on being able to read that output so that might be something to check on as well.

Still though, if you were able to install plugins before, and nothing changed about your server environment (big assumption there), then that leads me to think the is something else....

You said that this problem started occurring after you upgrading to a paid soho license. Was that it? It worked fine one minute, then you bought a license, logged back in and it started breaking? You didn't run Software Updates or anything somewhere in there?

If none of the above worked out for you, can you PM me sohoadmin and FTP login info for your site so I can go in and figure out what's going on?

To my knowledge nothing has changed on the server. I can still install and configure the Click Conter and the Scrolling news box. (I know because I un-installed and re-installed them just now. All is fine with them.

But, any other ones i try get the error mentioned above. I thought the downloads may have gotten corrupted, so I downloaded them again (over wrote the existing ones) and tried, same error. Then downloaded them again and saved to a different computer tried the install again. same error. It appears they are uploading through the interface fine, it just appears when the install tries to take place.

Prior to purchase of a license, I had installed the Claendar Plus, Live edit, and Audion ones and they werre all listed and functional. (was able to see the configuration and management of them in the control panel) then I forgot about the expiration and when I nexted logged in the Trial for Pro had expired and I purchased a license. They had not worked since.

I believe that the free plugins are not part of the paid for advance features, Correct?
So, I don't know if the issue is related the purchase or it is just a lucky timing issue with the problem.

Ideas?

Not certain that I understand what you mean here, but I think the answer is "right".

I really can't imagine how this issue could be related to your purchase. That's just a licensing change. My money's on this being related to a version upgrade or something. I'm very interested to know what's going here. Can you PM that log-in info to me?

Upgrading via Software Updates to the latest build (v4.9 r31 as of this post) should fix this problem. Try that.
