I just removed this garbage from my sever..I dont like being "tricked" into thinking it's a free program. It should not be in Fantastico at all.

At the very core of business is integity not geekhood.. it may be a great piece of code but unless you can offer a little integrity and customer support this project isnt going anywhere except in the complaint files

Hi Dan,

This FAQ (http://website.soholaunch.com/index.php?pr=FAQ#42) should shed some light on the license error and the Fantastico setup process.

and where would the "partner" site be ?

Well, we certainly don't like that you felt "tricked" in any way, and we would still like to get your install up and running so that you at least have the option of tinkering with the actual product a little.

We're also anxious to smooth out that initial licensing process in Fantastcio, and would welcome any ideas/suggestions on how we could prevent such reactions the future.

I just got this message also.
It was a bummer to not have more useful information available on the page that pops up.
It would be helpful if you would include a link to the license area on the page that pops up, since the current message is not very useful, especially if you were not expecting it. I was about to uninstall it but decided to do a google search to see if I could find some useful information about this strange messaged pop up license message.

I installed with fantastico within C-panel and there was no mention of the license page and I was unable to find any info when I intially visited your main website before I installed it.

Please place a link to the license web page on the license needed pop up page. I only found it because it is posted by someone above in the message.

Hi again,

I was looking at the fantastico link you posted below and that seems to be for the server operator. In my case I rent a host space on a server with c-panel and fantastico, so how would this apply to me since I would not want a server monthly rental but would be more interested in buying a single site license if I decide your software will meet my basic needs. I generally buy licenses and software as opposed to renting in case I move to another host.

Thanks.

I've been reading around in the forums and the website. I have come to agree with Dan that this is not Fantastico Friendly software and should probably be removed from Fantastico altogether since this is the only Fantastico software that requires an entirely separate license even use it on a limited or trail bases and does not mention anything about it on the Fantastico installer.

You need to create a new Fantastico friendly version that will allow us to try out your software without all this hassle, especially since you stand to gain alot of potential license purchases from doing so. You should at least have Fantastico update the text to indicate that a separate license is required for the trial. I would recommend that you create a time limited trial registration process for Fantastico users who are being hosted by a non-licensed hosting domain operator or at least a trial registration for those who are interested in trying out a single licensed version.

You really need to do something, because this kind of things really makes me feel skeptical of the quality of your service and software.

Hope you have a good solution available soon while I still have some interest in checking out your product.

Cheers. :(

To an extent I can understand your position and its understandable since this is the first Fantatico application that requires licensing upfront (its not the first licensable product as Cubecart and another CMS I can't remember the name of now require licensing to upgrade).

I won't get into Dan's comments more than to say that its utter nonsense (and not being a Sohlolaunch employee I am free to say so). No one tricked anyone since the application won't even install on a non licensed server.

In regard to your points I would say that in addition to having some valid points both you and Dan do have some MISUNDERSTANDINGS. First Fantastico is a commercial piece of software bought by your host to be installed on a server and Netenberg the company that wrote and supports it has never defined Fantastico as anything else but an auto installer. They are free to put anything they choose into Fantastico and have, are and will entertain commercial options some of which have been suggested by the hosts that are their customers. There is a common misconception that Fantastico is married to open source or free software. Not true. So I do not accept the premise of what should or should not be in a commercial piece of software. Thats their call and they made it so obviously they do not agree (and yes they were fully aware that it needed to be licensed) and its their software and they have in the past defended its place in Fantastico against similiar complaints.

Second. Soholaunch is for the most part a server based software designed to be operated by your host. Thats why its a natural fit for Fantastico. They both market and sell their products to the same people - Hosts. Your hosts has the option clearly spelled out on Netenberg's forums to disable Soholaunch on their servers. the idea is that your hosts either licenses the application or disables it. So if you want to install the application you contact your host and they activate your license. This post is long so I will folllow up in another post to explain a few more issues and where I think things can be improved.

since soholaunch is primarily a server based application (individual stand alone licensing is possible but not the primary market) it won't derive its target market from individual site licensing as you suggest.

Where you are right is that Soholaunch should be easy to install as any other Fantastico application. Bare in mind the integration between the two is only a few months old. Ideally licensing should be the same as Netenberg's which requires the registration of an IP ONCE with unlimited instances. (thats the backend part of it that you don't see when using Fantastico through a host) and it also should not require manual removal of any folders or files setup with a Cpanel account. Hosts adding the service for free to their customers don't want to log in and activate each account individually or go into accounts to delete setup files or folders.

I personally would have preferred to see this application as an add on that customers pay for but the trend (possibly encouraged by the six month trial) is to include it for free. If there were added income derived from it then I would bet we would see a greater amount of host support and setup assistance. So in my opinion the hosts that advertise or notify customers of its inclusion without spelling out the licensing necessities are as much to blame especialy if they know they are using the trial product only. Whats happening is that customers who get a error are just turning away and then hosts (like one I use for some other accounts) are incorrectly deducting from that that there is no demand for the application.

All that said we can curse the moon as we wish but the fact of that matter Soholaunch is the only thing out there that is auto installed. If you want to see complication try installing other sitebuilders. It requires much more than activation in a web based control panel.

How do I get an account at the partner site? Have installed pro edition on my server, but have not been sent any partner account information such as a user name and/or password. :(

Do you run your own server or do you have a hosting account?

Then you will need to contact planetehost regarding them licensing the application for it. Unfortunately alot of hosts are utilizing the promotional aspect of offering it with the free trial but not taking the plunge by actually signing up to offer the application. Find out whether your host is on the fence (if so knock them off the fence) or not. If not then they have a partner account and can activate your account for you.

You can purchase a license from sales@soholaunch.com . We offer a license called an anywhere license that can switch from server to server, as long as the domain stays the same. This license is a "leased" license and costs $1.50 a month. We also offer retail licenses that permenantly licenses a domain. This license will also follow a domain if it switches servers. Contact sales@soholaunch.com for more info.

First contact your host to license your site. If your host is not offering Soholaunch, you can purchase a license by contacting sales@soholaunch.com .

Hi Cameron, The user in this case is a fantastico user. Are you saying that a site can be setup through Fantastico and licensed on a domain basis without the server IP being licensed? This would be great news for the users who have come here over the last few days. Also for resellers who want to offer Soholaunch but their reseller accounts don't support it.

The site can be installed using Fantastico, but the user will need to manualy license the domain. Besides licensing, installation is the same. We have retail, and anywhere licenses available, both work on Servers running Fantastico.

and the $1.50 per month is for the Pro edition? I am hoping this is for base or you are seriously undervaluing the worth of the software. I come across a fair share of endusers (just when we at the moment do no hosting - go figure). Just want the most accurate information to tell them. Thanks

Hello all, I finally navigated to the site with information on my problem..

Im using a hosting service for my website with cpanel 9 and fantastico.
I tried to install soho from fantistico but it prompted me to remove certain files in my public html directory (index, images folder etc) which i did. Finally, after launching the sohoadmin index file in IE, it said that no license key was found on the server. I've tried contacting my hosting site about this but have had no response as of yet. Do hosting services typically provide this software for their users for free? I don't want to keep my site 'under construction' for too long, so was hoping for some pointers.
