View Full Version : Fantastico: Can't edit the Home Page

I can't seem to edit the home page, text or images? Have 4.7 installed with my host DIYhosts. I can add other pages and edit their content. But at no point do you get an option to change the text for the home page through the creation? Nor can I find anyway change as the generic text, as its anoying.

Do I have to upgrade.

I've limited, if any skills. I'd hope this was simple. :(

Hi Girven,

This will be fixed in the next Fantastico release, which should go out this wee. In the meantime, we've got a patch that will fix it. Are you comfortable with uploading files via C-Panel or FTP?

Should the file update_client.php be CHMOD 777 or 644 after upload?

Should I chmod the file? I overwrote the exisitng update_client.php with your file, but my client still cannot edit her Home page.

Just to follw-up (on my own post) :( I chmod the file to 777. Still no way to edit the Home page so I deleted it. But the old default still shows up on the web at the domain's main address.

Anyone know this script?

I applied the patch and can't find a way to update the main page as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm. Just installed SL and and taking a peek around. I notice that when using the Wizard, after selecting all the pages you want, save, and then view your site, you initially land on the home page in the browser, but the moment you leave the home page, there is no "Home" link in the nav. Shouldn't there be one by default?

There was a bug in the past Fantastico installation where the wizard didn't create the Home Page. This has been fixed in the latest Fantastico update. If you are experiencing this problem, create a new page called: Home Page .

Cool. Thanks, Cameron. Do you know if that patch you posted works? Others didn't seem to have luck with it. Does it work, and if it does, should I CHMOD it to a specific setting?

This is a pretty bad bug, I can't possibly resell something that is incapable of creating a homepage. :( I replaced the update_client.php file as above, but the home page still isn't being created in the edit list. What's going on? How come this isn't fixed in the main source?

Also, there are gross spelling/grammar errors in the default homepage text. Is this a serious professional product?? I have to wonder with serious errors like this in the Fantastico install, which I would have hoped would work just flawlessly.

Also, all the addons are selected by default, I'd love to know how to control that so they aren't all selected by default.

Cheers,

Brian

(Just to clarify, this bug HAS NOT been fixed in the latest Fantastico update as of a few days ago!!!)

This bug has been fixed in the latest version. Fantastico should have this updated this weekend.

Cameron, that's great, thanks for the update! We're just starting to really get into using Soholaunch and enjoying it, it looks like this is going to be a great product for us.

Just did a Fantastico update, and created a new site in Fantastico. The home page still doesn't appear in Edit pages, the fix is definitely not there, we still can't edit the home page.

Seems like going into webmaster and then "Saving Global Settings" causes it to reappear.

I'm confused here; we keep on getting told the fix is there, and I'm sure it is somewhere, but definitely not here as far as I can see. Am I doing something wrong? How could we tell whether Fantastico updated your software? Quite happy to apply a patch (the one mentioned didn't work), please let me know urgently!!

(Fantastico version De Luxe 2.8.4 r2 (current/latest) and Soholaunch 4.7 (Build 2004_11c))

You can tell whether Fantastico is updated by logging into the Fantastico admin area in cpanel. On the main page of the Fantastico admin area it will tell you whether a newer version is available or not. The Home Page problem was a result of the Fantastico interface overwriting the site_pages table after going through the wizard, and leaving out Home Page. The script overwrites this was a Fantastico depot file that we could not be changed until the next Fantastico release. Our Solution was to create a script which creates a Home Page every time the user logs in. The flaw with this script is that if the user runs through the wizard on the first login, the Home Page will not be created until they log out, and back into Soholaunch. Fantastico's lead developer is aware of this, and we are in the process of testing Fantastico's new Soho Installer to assure that the next release properly creates the Home Page in the quick-start wizard. Sorry for the confusion this may have caused.

Fantastico will release v4.8.1 of SohoLaunch very soon. You need to wait for just few more days and after that no need to rely on Fantastico as you can update SohoLaunch yourself.

Newbie question. I am hosting a web site at MidPhase. MidPhase provides SohoLaunch for free and the current installation is 4.8.2.r4.

The text editor is not working for current version. How can I update to latest build?

Did you install soho? If so, the installation process should have taken you to the administrative part of the website where you can edit pages.

Enter your domain name url on the browser should bring up the home page as well.

I can edit all other pages, but I can't find the home page. I have looked all over. I am so New to websites, sorry about that. I have used the wizard twice thinking I would find it there, I tried making a new page called Home , but that just created a new page. I deleted a page when I had the free trial site, I think I messed something up. I thought when I paid for Soho I would be able to start over, but it didn't. So I changed templates, that didn't do it. Ugh, I am sure it is me just missing something...Where exactly do I found the home page? Like I said I have found and edited the other pages
Thank you Jodi

The home page is called "Home Page". If you accidentally deleted it, try to create one spelled exactly as is.

I can't edit any pages, including the home page. I can't delete the home page and create another one. I have no way of knowing what version I'm running ( There should be a link for checking and updating ). I went through the diagnostics and they don't work.

This is what I see.

What is wrong?

OK this is really weird, but every time I try to insert an image, the html editor pops up behind the actual editing page, so that I can't see the html editing page at all! So, this makes me "cancel" process and there is the html diting page, on the editing page, blended in with it somehow... with letter all across and behind the editing boxes... What is up with this, and has anyone else had this or fixed this? This does not happen on the other pages, just the Home Page.

I'm getting the exact same thing when trying to edit the Home Page. Every other page is fine, but I can't insert images or links on the home page and when I cancel I go back to the page I was editing, but see both the page and the insert image box behind it.

Screenshot can be found here:

(added spaces as I don't know if direct links are allowed)

That is EXACTLY the same screenshot what I am seeing! This is obviously some sort of bug in the program.. and a bad one, I can't even edit my home page at all because of this.

Can anyone help??? :hmm: Anyone at all???

please:ehheh:

Don't know about the bug...

However, see if this works:

1. Edit home page without changing anything, but "save as" another page name e.g., "Test".
2. Edit "Test" page, presumably should work without problems.
3. "Save as" "Test" page back to home page.

Can you tell which step(s) did not work?

The whole solution just didn't work. I did steps 1-3 but when I tried to edit the TEST page, the same thing happened. It's very weird, because it used to work, but hasn't for the last 2 weeks or so. I can't insert images, insert hyper links, place Google ads etc.

lwyau

Step 1 obviously worked, but step 2 did not. This is actually an important clue in that your problem has nothing to do with the page name (home page), but more likely to do with its content, since you had the exactly same problem with "test" page.

I'd venture to say that you probably pasted the content to the text editor from Microsoft Word, which is famous in embedding unfrieldy HTML codes. If this is indeed the case, start over but use the "paste from Word" icon on the text editor instead.

Post your url so we can take a look.

Ok guys,
Looks like it is a 'content' issue. This is what I did to test it (I work tech support for a web hosting company):
1. Edited Home Page and did a Save As and saved it as Test
2. Edited the Test page and tried to add an image to an existing Text Editor object. This doesn't work as the dialog box for the image selector is still being loaded behind the text editor window (if you click HTML view you'll see what I mean by loading behind).
3. Removed all Text Editor objects and saved the page.
4. Re-edited the Test page and added a blank Text Editor object.
5. Drilled into the text editor and added an image. I was able to get the image selection dialog box.

I hope this helps soho tech try and figure out what's causing it.

Well, this is the wrong "forum" to expect soho tech figuring out problems. Everyone contributing answers here (except soho employees, of course) does this on a voluntary basis (myself included). To properly get problems to soho tech, you have two options:

1. Report issues over at bugz.soholaunch.com (you need to register if you haven't). This is a formal repository of soho issues. It'll be very helpful if you can provide as much info as you can. There is no expected timeframe for soho to fix reported issues.

2. For more immediate support, you can submit a support ticket in your partner's area (you become a partner when you purchase soho license(s).) If you don't have a partner's account, you can purchase a support ticket here: http://info.soholaunch.com/Support.php. If you installed soho on the account of your host, ask them first. Some do provide soho support but others don't.

Having gotten the above out of the way, let's talk about the text editor in general. It is always a good idea to use the text editor as intended (namely, input text, images and other stuff much like you would with a Word processor). You tend to invite trouble when inserting complicated html codes. The object of choice for those is the custom include files. Yes you have less flexibility in placement, but what you gain is that soho definitely leaves custom include codes alone with genearting your pages in real time.

Hi guys - I'm new to the forums, and I'm of limited ability website-wise. I seem to have hit the obstacle that a number of others have and made the mistake of uploading text from Word 2007 to my Homepage, which has resulted in me being unable to edit it. Any ideas or work arounds to fix the problem without completely re-building the website? :yikes:

Create a new page and let's call it "Test" page. Edit "Test" to rebuild your home page from scratch. Once you are done, perform a "save as" and type "Home Page" as the page name.

Strange problem - have not really changed home page for a while - few weeks ago made some minor changes to home page - highlighting - minor text changes and some changes to page properties. No problem - saved easily. Today went to edit Page properties and page does not exist! all I got was the standard headers etc of Soho and a single main frame in the editing area that said "Move Object" nothing else!
Dragged "Text Editor" box from editing tools to the left side of the "Move Object" box and it opened to edit -I clicked " cancel" and it went back to the overview of the two frames and WOW! I could see my "Home page" data - went into "Home" and saved. Preview showed page had moved due to other Text Editor box on left. Deleted frame and saved - could not see Home page again but displayed properly! Did this a few times - same thing - Home page not visible unless I add a new Text Editor box - there is no copy work on this page other than images.
This happen to anyone else? and do I really have to make a new home page?
