I just downloaded the UPS shipping module but I am having trouble installing it. I have uploaded the zip file through the 'Plugin Manager', this is the error message I receive:
Error: Could not successfully extract zip file (ups_shipping.zip).
Possible causes/fixes...
1. shell_exec() function disabled on your server - Chances are if this is the cause then you'll probably have problems with the Software Updates feature as well. If that's the case, you may want to ask your web hosting company about whether "the php function called shell exec is disabled" on your server.
2. Damaged archive file - You may want to check whether the .zip archive file itself is incomplete/damaged. To do this, use WinZip or similiar utility on your local PC to open up the plugin .zip file you downloaded... If the .zip opens in WinZip with no error message, and you can see all the files and folders within the .zip, then the archive is probably OK. Otherwise, if you do get an error when you try to open the plugin .zip with WinZip, then try re-downloading the plugin .zip, or contacting the plugin author if that doesn't work.
Error: Unable to detect name of extracted folder.
I'm a newb with this PHP stuff, I hope someone will help guide me on how to install this!
Your help is greatly appreciated!! :)

First make sure the zip file is good. Open with winzip or similar on your computer to see.
Secondly, you need to figure out if this is a generic problem in installing any plug-in, or specific to this one. In order to find out, go get any of the free plug-ins and install it. If you are successful, you know this is specific to this plug-in.
However, if it fails, you have an issue with your host. Pass the error message to your host to resolve.

Thanks for your reply! I've taken the steps you've suggested, I did try installing other plugins and I was receiving the same error message. I guess this problem might be from my host, I have contacted them about this issue.

I got a reply from my host telling me that 'shell_exec() is enabled on the server.'
I checked out the diagnostic in sohoadmin, the section for permissions, there is an error report that says 'Owner and Group must be "username" to function properly.'
For the public_html folder, the table shows that group is owned by nobody, writeable says no and status says failed.
Permissions for all folders are set at 755, does this have anything to do with my plugin installation problems??

Typically, what we do is set the entire site initially to be owned by the ftp user with permissions of 775. Then, upon installation, the Soholaunch application sets the admin folders to their appropriate settings. In the diagnostic tools, there should be an option fix permissions. Try this first. If that fails or doesn't fix the problem, use your ftp to set the plugins folder to 775 and ownership of your ftp user.

I did try fixing permissions in the diagnostic tools, nothing has changed, the same error report is there. As for the rest of what you suggested, I went into cpanel file manager, I changed the permissions on the plugin folder to 775 from there....did I do this correctly?
Thanks for your help!

If you have cPanel access, you should be ok to do most anything. Setting the permissions to 775 is ok but that folder will have to be owned by apache with a group of apache in order to work. What you can do is set the plugins folder to be 777 temporarily. You will need to do the same to the "temp" folder inside the plugins folder. Then install the plugin. Once you have it installed, you can set them both back to 775 or 755.
However, in the long run, I suggest you ask your host to go into your account and run the following unix commands:
chown -R apache:apache public_html
chmod -R 775 public_html
This will fix permissions for all files. The only issue you will have is with ftp. If you use ftp a lot, you will need to set the folders you need ftp access to using the following, where {username} is the login name you enter for cPanel and {folder name} is the name of the folder you need to set permissions on:
chown -R {username}:apache {folder name}
Hope this helps!

My host server contacted me, telling me that they fixed the problem. The installation for the UPS zip file worked, finally!!
But now another little thing, I was testing the shopping cart checkout, once I reach the shipping options step, there is a drop down menu to select delivery preferences, however, the drop down menu is blank, none of the options are showng up. I'm not sure how to fix this...please advise!
Is this a script issue or another issue with my host server?
thanks

It sounds like when the installation occurred, it did not successfully copy the ups_custom_shipping.php file into the media folder. You can manually do this by extracting the zip file and then use the File Manager feature in Soholaunch to upload that file from the extracted folder.

I checked the media folder and the the ups_custom_shipping.php file was installed there, but the problem still persists.
Can I PM someone my site so you can check it out and see what's wrong?
thanks

Zoozi,
For those that didn't already find out before, the problem that you were encountering was due to the fact that the UPS shipping plug-in did not provide rates for packages originating outside of the United States.
I am sorry that you went through all the trouble to purchase and then get a refund.
However, there is good news. We have rewritten this plugin to allow shipping from any country that UPS services. I have tested this using your Canadian address on our test servers and it does work!
If you are interested in this plugin, please let us know. I have updated the build on the Soholaunch store so you can purchase there if you would like to have this capability.

I had this exact problem, and I tried to install the new version 2.1 but after I log out and back in again, it automatically reverts back to version 1.0 ( of the UPS Real time shipping plug-in)
what can I do to fix this?

Have you attempted to go to the admin panel for the plugin, either through the Shipping section or through the plugins section? If so, do you see two boxes for entering account information? If you do, you have the latest installed and for some reason Soholaunch is telling you that you have an older version.
If you don't have those, then I suggest attempting to download the file from Soho's addon store. Make sure that when you download, you are getting the version 2.1. You can find this out by opening the zip file and looking at the top of install_manifest.php. It shows the version number in quotes. If that is indeed 2.1, then go ahead and try to install it over the top of the old one. Don't uninstall first.
Let me know if this works for you.

I can't even open this file at all: install_manifest.php
I have uninstalled this plug in so many times.. then tried it all over again.. nothing seems to work.. Is there another reader/program I need to have for this to download correctly? I am starting to give up hope... Where do I go for a refund? Maybe I can use another Real time shipping plug-in instead.

I just opened the install_manifest.php file, and it shows to be the 1.0 version... no wonder it isn't upgrading to the new version... I paid the full $99 for the 1.0 version... I thought this would entitle me to the newer versions too... :whatever: how can I get a link to the new version,... because the update button in my plug-in manager only leads to the old version..???

I'd be interested in hearing if there's a solution to this.
My client is having the same problem where it reverts back to version 1, leaving an empty drop down box for the online customer to be confused by.
Please respond at your earliest convenience with any updates.

And I'm having the same trouble as all of these other people. I put a more detailed message on the board for your review.
Can you please assist?
Thanks

On Friday, Nov 1, I posted an update that will hopefully fix this issue. There are two problems, one with the build of our plugin you have, and possibly one in your settings. Please be sure to go to the Webmaster -> Business Info section and make sure your state field has a TWO LETTER designation for your state or province. Anyone that still has the issue after addressing the state field issue can email us at support@netsolutionsna.com and will email the updated install file. Soho's built-in update feature is a bit squirrely I have found.

I also had this issue, but it is finally fixed with the new version that I was sent by NetSolutions. It works perfect now:)
BUT I was wondering about what to do for local pick up options... Is there a way I can configure/modify this plug in to have this option for my customers? Or do I have to buy the base shipping and local pick-up plug-in? and will it interfere with my UPS Real time shipping plug-in?:hmm:

Oh it did actually... OK that changes everything..:ehheh: I just didn't know that I could manually configure the plug in to add a free delivery or pick-up option. Do you know how to do that?

Sonja, if you are a php developer, you can edit the ups_custom_shipping.php file in your media folder. In that file, you can hard set local pickup as the first option in your pull down with a value of "0.00" for the option. I am pretty sure this would work.
You can't use both the "base and local" plugin and the UPS plugin. They aren't designed to work together.
If you would like, we can customize the UPS plugin for you. To modify and test would take up to an hour; if you would like to proceed, please let us know at support@netsolutionsna.com.
Thanks
