Page components

Is there a way to limit or temporarily remove certain page components? For example, I would like to set my system up with "packages", where a customer could signup for a very basic package only giving him certain tools such as the text editor and maybe hit counter. Then if he wanted to upgrade in the future, I could make more components available to him by making certain components available. Hopefully this is fairly easy to do within the php code of one of the admin files.

Editing which features are and aren't available in the page editor requires a fair amount of editing to the code. I would recommend that instead you take advantage of the additional users module found in the the webmaster menu. With this module you can limit which pages the user has access to, along with which modules they are allowed to access. It is possible to limit which objects are available in the page editor if you have your heart set on that, but it would not be easy to do or manage.
