After trying the new tags in 4.7 I have come across a stumbling block which bewilders me, maybe someone can the explain the nuance of the tag #NEWSBOX#:#NEWSBOX-000# (flexible article snippet). Ruben suggested "#NEWSBOX-50#" which, I have incorporated into a web page. Alas I see no difference !
What are the characteristics of this tag?
Does anyone have a live example of the 2 tags side by side for visual comparision?
:)

#NEWSBOX-50# shows the first 50 characters of the content of a news article. #NEWSBOX-100# would show the first 100 characters.

When looking as site http://christobal.netzer.org.il you can see a news article based on chars which represent the total chars in count/
Am using tag #NEWSBOX-50# , so why only 31 chars show up :(

Keep in mind that this includes any html you may have in the content. It takes out all html characters, such as tags, but there may be some html related spaces in the code that account for this.

see latest news item - it shows 50 chars with no spaces.
What is the limit for this function and how many chars by default does the simple #NEWSBOX# tag handle?

Hi Christobal,
see latest news item - it shows 50 chars with no spaces.
Can you post another link to this? The one you posted earlier doesn't seem to work.
What is the limit for this function
999 char limit right now (#NEWSBOX-999#). If you guys think more will be needed we can bump it to 9999....but say something quick, cause 4.7's nearing release version.
and how many chars by default does the simple #NEWSBOX# tag handle?
None. #NEWSBOX# on it's own is exactly the same as #NEWSBOX-000#.

Sorry the site was down for a few minutes, due to housework ( Its a Win Machine running Apache) Bill's wonder box requires a lot of dusting and poloshing.
Try this link now ---the news box is on the right --- http://christobal.netzer.org.il
P.s. Some of the site is in Hebrew (RTL) so dont panic about the crazy characters or directions. TNX again to Ruben who forced me into this page layout--Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The limitations on in the newsbox may be due the size of the newsbox. Does this newsbox have room to expand?

The newsbox grows dynamically
Have come to terms with the limitations of this tag, anyone planning on using it in a fixed area should take into account that the structure includes whitespace and CRLF as part of the character count.

After testing the newsbox feature over and over, it seems just fine on my test site. Just out of curiosity, so we can troubleshoot. On your site it looks like your using -100. When you change the variable from 50 to 100 does this change the number of characters in your box?

Yes (Dont forget that the count includes whitespace)

Ok, I'm new to this, but I've searched the forum for all the posts on #NEWSBOX# and I'm still a little confused about something.
After you get the newsbox on the template, it works and builds a link to /index.php?nShow=1 for the first news story. Where is this supposed to go to in order to display the full story? I don't think I understand the basics of how it's supposed to work.
Can someone help this newbie?

The link index.php?nShow=1 goes to a specific blog post. You can display an entire blog category by dropping the blog object on a page and selecting the category.
