Problem with sub navigation-help please

After a longfew weeks, I have built my website using my own designed template. Today,however, I have come across another problem which I cannot seem to work out a solution for. I have created a sub navigation list but on the website, it just shows a blacked out box. I have checked my CSS and cannot see where to change this.

Any help appreciated.

Your CSS shows the following

#side_menu {

display: none;
float: left;
width: 89px;
height: 100%;
background-color: #030303;

}

if you change the background color here that should fix it hopefully
